What would it look like if we were to honor all? Would that mean that the street corner beggar, I am from a metropolitan area, would be treated with the same type of respect with which I treat my Abbot?
Well, yes it would. And I must confess that I do no always do it. If I am in a hurry, or if I see the beggar day by day, at the same location, I do pass them. Some of Chicago's beggars end up with an income of about $35,000. Still others seem so out of it. In those cases I don't think adding a drug habit is a positive thing. But there those others . . . .
I try to honor all those in a church like I would honor Jesus. That gets a bit hard when a member is really in my face. It gets harder when someone is being friendly to my face, but is as sabotaging me when when my back is turned. But I do.try.
I could go on and on, but thank you Lord for the times when I when I succeed in obeying I Peter's commands, "Honor everyone. Love the family of believers. Fear God. Honor the emperor." Please strengthen me, and help meds better, for the times when I don't.
PAX,
Brother Oscar Romero
