Besides the players, and the size of the chess board, one other thing stood out in a jarring way; the pieces being played. The side of evil contained only one rook, a huge and forbidding castle like structure that radiated the essence of evil. The evil rook was surrounded by thousands of pawns.
On the side of Lord God a king of blazing light stood forth in the center. There was no queen, but there were knights, the prophets who brought God's word to God's people, the Bishops, priests who served in the temple of The Lord, and small rooks, the people of faith who for generation after generation followed their Lord.
The battle between the two opponents raged for eons. In time, to the dismay of God's people, the side of evil seemed ready to conquer. Eventually from the citadel of evil a triumphant "check mate" rang forth as blood flowed from the King until the piece slumped into nothingness.
Evil laughter welled from the pawns of evil as they capered with delight. For three long days the forces of evil celebrated.
Then, in a quiet whisper God spoke saying, "I think you are mistaken." And with a roar of sheer, raw, unadulterated power a cave, in a city called Jerusalem, exploded and the King, shining more brightly than the light of the sun burst through the chess board into the very center. Beside the King there stood a Queen, the church, the Bride of Christ.
The citadel of evil exploded and the pawns of evil were vanquished. From that time forth evil could still appear, but never again could it win.
Easter means God wins! The power of sin over us has been destroyed, and the power of death has become merely a moment of new birth to eternal life!
Rejoice my sisters and brothers for CHRIST IS RISEN!
